CAMPER SPRING 2012 OCEAN RACE COLLECTION/VOLVO OCEAN RACE

Alicante SPAIN, Meatpacking District/NYC

Nautically savvy humans get the challenge of ocean sail races...as a challenge...and not just an insane amount of time to spend in close quarters without the water pressure of modern plumbing.

It's not just that World Cup winners- the home team-visited Spanish footwear brand Camper's sponsorship of Emirates New Zealand's boat prior to the race's start...that got us interested.

The Volvo Ocean race brings out the festivities and inspired cultural offerings from many international corners. Case in point is the imaginative Camper pavilion-soon to 'tour' other cities from it's current locale-Alicante, Spain ---including a stop in Miami.

Designed by Japanese architect Shigru Ban-out of 'found materials' like recycled paper...it captures the essence of many of the brand's shoes that we saw at a media preview in NYC...out of the box, eye catching design elements (the pavilion is round), eco aware construction, and functional as well as imaginative.

There was lots to love at the shoe preview---naturally we zeroed in on the new additions to the Ocean Racing Collection---that are set to hit the market in early winter.
